Tampa, FL — WEDU PBS was honored last night with a NETA (National Education Telecommunications Association) Award for Content – News & Public Affairs. The NETA Awards provide recognition to the public media organizations they represent and the work that they do to further education in their area.
WEDU Associate Producer and host of WEDU Arts Plus, Dalia Colon, videographer Danny Bruno and the rest of the WEDU team were recognized in the Content – News and Public Affairs category for the WEDU Arts Plus segment The Red Tent. The segment features the women from Pinellas County Jail who are benefitting from The Red Tent Women’s Initiative, where inmates have the opportunity to participate in arts and crafts projects with fellow women.
“Congratulations to our entire creative team. WEDU PBS is changing lives through storytelling that educates and inspires our community. We greatly appreciate the NETA organization for recognizing our team’s excellence nationally,” said WEDU President and CEO Paul Grove.
The NETA Awards, in partnership with the Corporation of Public Broadcasting first organized in 1968 to honor their members’ finest work in education, community engagement, marketing/communications and content. “We are excited to kick off the NETA Conference and CPB Public Media Thought Leader Forum again this year by honoring the best in public media,” said NETA president Eric Hyyppa.
Stations competed within their appropriate divisions based on their station size, except for the categories falling under overall excellence. Awards were judged by a group of expert panelists within the public media system, as well as industry professionals outside of public media.
