Sustainability Goals

Switching to reusable bottles and avoiding plastic spoons can’t “fix” climate change overnight. With climate anxiety on the rise, we understand that this topic can feel overwhelming, and you may not see how your input makes an impact. Helping our planet is a collective effort, and although actions are needed through policy changes and business practices, it’s important to check in with our sustainability goals.

July 2023 was the hottest month ever recorded. In fact, the years 2015 to 2022 were the eight warmest on record! Even the rate of sea level rise from 2013 to 2022 was more than twice the rate of the decade before. And while these numbers are concerning, the number of people discussing climate change is also rising.

In 2021, the U.S. launched its first-ever National Climate Task Force, whose goals focus on reducing greenhouse gasses, achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, creating more “green” electricity solutions, and delivering clean energy to disadvantaged communities. So far, there has been progress, including increasing the number of electric vehicles on the road, nature-focused infrastructure, combating deforestation, bringing solar power to more homes, and more.

Measuring how far along we are with climate change efforts can be challenging due to how many categories and groups are affected. However, a recent report from UN Climate Change finds that there hasn’t yet been enough action to limit global temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius and meet the goals of the Paris Agreement.

But we are shifting toward an eco-friendly world comfortable talking about our changing climate. Nearly two-thirds of Americans now believe climate change is impacting their lives, and tools such as the Climate Clock remind us that protecting our planet should be a top priority.

So, what can we do to encourage more action? A great place to start is by contacting your representatives! There are many online resources to help you get started. Continuing to seek new information and updates is a great way to get involved, and discussions with family and friends help to spread necessary awareness.
