PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT TRAININGS

WEDU PBS supports professional development learning for early childhood educators to foster school readiness for the children in their care. WEDU trainings provide educators access to PBS hands-on resources and help them integrate media and technology into classrooms experiences.  

AVAILABLE TRAINING FOR EARLY LEARNING PROVIDERS

(90 - 120 MINUTES)

Each training includes an interactive, virtual or in-person, experience. Participants will be engaged in discussions with other educators and share through brainstorming best practices. Presenter will introduce and provide a brief tutorial for the following digital platforms in all trainings: PBS Learning Media, PBS Kids, PBS KIDS For Parents and Sesame Street in Communities. Presenter will share topic related resources and suggest how to use media effectively in early learning settings.

STEM for Young Learners

Using our many PBS characters to encourage child curiosity and exploration, this training will give providers ideas for STEM activities inside the classroom and out. Presenter will share quick and easy tips for teaching math and science concepts throughout the day, as well as full lesson plans, science experiments, recipes, and interactive games/apps.

Social Emotional Learning

A quick overview of Social Emotional Learning competencies on the PBS LearningMedia platform will begin the training, along with a case for integrating SEL skills into daily lessons. The presenter will introduce PBS characters, as well as Sesame Street friends, who teach social emotional skills. The presentation includes activities and lesson plans for the classroom, as well as interactive games/apps for individual or student small group time. Also included are ideas for families to reinforce social emotional skills outside the classroom.

Emergency Preparedness

Presenter will direct early learning providers to ready to use, digital materials for emergency preparation in their classrooms and at home. The tools are appropriate for young learners and feature their favorite characters who prepare them for potential emergencies and introduce them to community helpers. In addition, presenter will share tools that support early learners through big emotions, grief and recovery from unexpected tragedies.

School Readiness

Presenter will identify and share kindergarten readiness skills, as well as digital resources that help teach these math, literacy and social emotional competencies. Full lesson plans will be available for download and participants will gain access to other tools, such as interactive games and apps that help reinforce early learning. In addition, presenter will include resources for families to use that extend lessons and reinforce school readiness skills.

Traumatic Experiences

Participants will learn how to support early learners who have experienced trauma. They will be able to identify potential signs of exposure to trauma, as well as how these signs differ by age. Presenter will provide resources and additional professional development opportunities on PBS digital platforms and guide participants to partner websites for additional support. 

Literacy in the Early Childhood Classroom

Presenter will share ideas for incorporating literacy activities that promote early reading skills in young learners into the curriculum. Participants will discover ways to set a foundation for reading in the classroom; as well as strategies to share with families to use at home. The literacy training will also include a special section on Storytelling!                                                                                                   

Early Math Skills for Young Learners

Participants will discover a variety of math activities for use in the classroom, as well as every day strategies to share with families for at home use. Lessons for early learners will focus on foundational math skills. We will discuss how to use manipulatives for hands on learning and how to incorporate favorite PBS and Sesame Street characters into engaging lessons. 

Integrating the Arts into Early Learning Environments

Creating art gives children an opportunity to express themselves. The presenter will share different art forms and ways to incorporate them into the preschool classroom. Using our digital resources, participants will discover unique and fun ways to help children express themselves through art. Art is also a great tool for reinforcing social and emotional skills.
